Q. Where is My Big Gig held and can I buy tickets?

A. Heats Dates: Tuesday September 16, Wednesday 17th, Thursday 18th, Friday 19th September

Venue: Canning Vale College Performing Arts Centre, 26 Dumbarton Rd, Canning Vale

Finals – Friday 26th September

Venue: Fly By Night Musicians Club - Fremantle

Q. When do we find out who is in the Finals?

A. Finalist schools will be announced at the conclusion of each day heat.

Q. If I’m in the FINALS do I have to buy a ticket for myself?

A. If you are playing in the Finals then you do not need to buy a ticket – teachers accompanying students, also do not need to buy a ticket. You will receive a different colored ticket than those on sale, which will be laminated on your lanyard and given to you. All finalist schools will be given two complimentary tickets for supervising teachers to distribute at their discretion – usually these are passed to Principals, Head Of Dept etc

Q. What gear do I need to bring to play on?

A. Everything will be done to make sure that you have great gear to play with. Set up for your use will be standard guitar amps, bass amp, keyboard, mics and drum kit (only all the good stuff!) If you want to bring extra equipment ( i.e extra cymbals, double kick, cry baby pedals etc) make sure that you are able to set it up quickly, and like all things, keep an eye on it!

Q. What can we play?

A. You can play what you want – covers, originals etc. Just remember you are being judged on specific critieria – so although it might sound appealing to thrash out some out some high pitched swearing, it aint going to win you brownie points – crowd enjoyment needs to be a key factor. MBG does not want to act as a censor, however consideration must be give to providing a tasteful performance as this is a school and family event with an audience of wide age ranges at the Finals. Any complaints regarding the tastefulness of your performance will be sent to your principal.

Q. How long is the set for?

A. In the heats, bands are limited to ten minutes onstage time all up- so two songs are usually the norm – unless you have a mega long solo… In the Finals, you have a total of 15 minutes on stage – generally up to three songs.

Q. How many bands from our school can enter My Big Gig?

A. Unfortunately schools are limited to just one representing band from their school. Even though you may have more than one band interested in playing and representing your school, you must decide on one that will play.

Q. How does my band enter My Big Gig?

A. Simply fill in the Application form found in the Forms page and get a teacher from your school to support you!

Q. What kind of items are NOT permitted at My Big Gig?

A. For the sake of everyone’s safety and enjoyment there are certain items that you will not be permitted to bring into the venue under any circumstances. My Big Gig is a 100% drug and alcohol free event. Any student found drinking alcohol, using illicit drugs or smoking will be excluded from their school’s performance and removed from the venue. Please refer to the Rules Guidelines for the full list of no-nos.
