IT was a spectacular turnout for the 11 band final last night at St Mary's Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre.  The stage was huge, the lighting show dazzling, and the quality of bands outstanding!

Each band performed their new set to the judges and an enthusiastic crowd.  Special Guests Sonpsilo Circus, entertained the audience as the judges deliberated through their very tough decisions on the place winners and prize winners.

At the end of the night the results were!:

3rd Place - winning $2000 worth of equipment from the Roland range from Kosmic were the Plugs from Carmel School

2nd Place - winnning $3000 worth of equipment from the Roland range from Kosmic were Age from Carey Baptist College

1st Place - winning $5000 worth of equipment from Roland, recording time with the City of Gosnells, mentoring sessions with Rock Scholars, and performance opportunities at Gozzy Rock 2012 and the Norfolk Lanes Youth Festival were The Take Over from Balcatta Senior High School.

The Original Song award - winnning $1000 worth of facilities at Pro Copy from Morely and presented by Peter Hutt was won by Le Mer from Canning Vale College with their haunting song, The Commute.

The Encourgement Award - sponsored by Fender and an awesome collection of equipment to the value of over $3000 went to Hey Hurricane from Perth Waldorf School.

Congratulations to all bands who participated - you were all fantastic and professional musicians who have a bright future ahead of you!

Photos of the finals night will be put up on the website over the weekend.  Judging comments as well as a hardcopy of all photos will be mailed out to all schools at the beginning of Term 4.

 

 

Tomorrow night, 11 bands will battle it out for the awesome array of prizes!  Don't forget aside from the sweet prize pool of over ten thousand dollars split between the winners and two runners up, bonus prizes include:

* The Fender Encouragement Award 0 winning over $3000 worth of equipment from Fender

*  The Most Original Song Award - winning recording time with Pro Copy in Morely worth $1000.

And!  The winning band will also have the opportunity to perform at Gozzy Rock 2012, recording time with the City of Gosnells, mentoring sessions with Rock Scholars and new this year; performing at the Norfolk Lanes Festival in December, run by the city of Fremantle- exclusive and very prestigious gigs to further add to their exposure as a band.

It was just too hard to make those splitting decisions, so this year, the judges decided that they would put through not two, but THREE WILDCARD bands, making this year 2011, an 11 band Final!

The last of the heats kicked off with 11 bands vying for the last spots in the Finals next week!

Today saw quite a number of remote schools participating; Yanchep, Geraldton, Northam and Albany all descended upon Canning Vale to wow the judges with their fantastic musicianship skills and had them singing along and tapping their feet.

Daily prizes of the Encouragement Award went to Christ Church Grammar with their band CC-5

The Best Performer of the Day went to Tim Thomas for his groovy bass skills from Quinn's Baptist College.

Today saw the final two bands going straight through to the Finals.  They were:

Quinn's Baptist College with their band

Canning Vale College with their band, La Mer

Despite the drizzling rain, this did not dampen the spirits of the excited bands that made their way to Canning Vale for the third installment of the heats for 2011.

Guest band Foam took to the stage for another set of catchy tunes and original songs much to the delight of the audience who made their way to the stage for a bit of dancing!

After the deliberation of the judges, the next two bands making it to the finals were:

The Best Performer of the Day was awarded to Shenice from Morely Senior High School

The second heat turned out to be an exciting day of catchy originals, awesome covers, and a bit of make up artistry with one band having a multitude of very life looking skulls painted on!  There were ripping guitar licks, headbanging through the haze of the smoke machine, and very animated performances from exuberant young musicians!

After FOAM had finished their set, the announcement of the next two bands heading to the ten band final was made:

The Take Over - from Balcatta Senior High School  and

AGE - from Carey Baptist College.

The Best Performer of the Day was awarded to Brayden Sibbald from MacKillop Catholic College with his multi-instrumental skills from the band Needing Cherie.

The Encouragement Award, sponsored by AVID went to Wanneroo Senior High School with their band, Month of Sundays.

Well the first of the heats of My Big Gig 2011 started with a bang, with nine fantastic and eclectic bands spanning all different styles and genres, belting out some awesome tunes.  There were standout singers, awesome guitar solos, choreographed head banging and even a saxophone solo!

The judges were impressed with the stand out quality and passionate young musicians who all participated, but the first of the two bands going to the ten band final are:

Hey Hurricane - from Perth Waldorf School and

Mystery Obsession - from Cecil Andrews Senior High School.

The Best Performer of the Day was awarded to Kyle Dickinson from Seton Catholic College with his awesome keyboard skills in the band Transtube.

The Encouragement Award, sponsored by AVID went to First To Lose from Mandurah Senior College - a cool set of headphones to the value of $400!

2009 winners of My Big Gig, formerly known as Fat Jackal and now Foam - performed for the audience their catchy tunes with a fantastic set as the judges deliberated their decisions.

Well the time is almost upon us, with the heats beginning next week!  Bands have been busily preparing for the event - with awesome looking band profiles, demo cd's, posters, even a stitched beanie!

The prize pool is once again outstanding, with the winners of MBG taking performance opportunites with Gozzy Rock 2012, mentoring from Rock Scholars, and performing at the Norfolk Lanes Youth Festival in December.  Nofolk Lanes Youth Festival has featured some of Australia's finest bands including Tame Impala, Tim & Jean and in its 3rd year, continues to rpvodie a platform for youg local and national bands to perform at a unique event in Fremantle.  All of the acts playing Norfolk Lanes Youth Festival are under the age of 25, providing inspiration to young people to play and enjoy music.

There are daily prizes for the Best Performer and an Encouragement Award for school bands.

With our new venue at St Mary's Anglican Girls School - The Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre, Wednesday night the 21st of September is shaping up to be an awesome night with Sonpsilo CIrcus will be our guest band, belting out some awesome tunes to rock to.

All final specs, permission forms and compere notes should now have been finalised and sent back to Canning Vale College in preperation for the heats.

Band Profiles - a significant factor in determining which bands go through to the finals as MBG is based on a score system - are due Monday 29th August.
